JetBlue Airways announced financial results for the fourth quarter of 2022.
The New York-based carrier reported record operating revenue of $2.4 billion as well as a fourth-quarter profit, adding that, unlike the problems that beset Southwest Airlines in December, its operational and financial performance was not affected too much by the severe weather.
The company said it achieved “the highest fourth-quarter operating revenue in company history,” and that revenue for fiscal 2022 was $9.1 billion.
“We closed the year with strong fourth-quarter performance, driving the highest full-year revenue result in our history, and solid cost execution as we hit our full-year cost target,” said the airline’s CEO, Robin Hayes, in a statement.
JetBlue’s strong performance was in stark contrast with that of Southwest Airlines, which also reported earnings on Thursday.
The Dallas-based airline reported record fourth quarter and full year operating revenues of $6.2 billion and $23.8 billion, respectively, but a fourth quarter loss of $220 million.
Alaska Air Group, the parent of Alaska Airlines, also reported earnings on Thursday, posting revenue of $2.5 billion and a profit of $22 million in the fourth quarter and $58 million for the full year in 2022, respectively.
