Google has struck a wide-ranging multi-year deal to partner with Los Angeles’ SoFi Stadium and its two resident National Football League (NFL) teams, the Rams and the Chargers.

The new agreement will see Google Cloud, the internet giant’s cloud computing arm, provide the core technologies that will underpin a range of business operations and consumer experiences at SoFi Stadium, which is being developed by Rams owner and chairman Stan Kroenke.

Among the technologies to be created is a ‘personal concierge’ app that will be powered by Google Cloud, built by Deloitte, and provide an array of stadium services to event-goers, including way finding, ticketing, and food and beverage ordering.

Meanwhile Google-owned YouTube also becomes the official video streaming sponsor of the Rams, Chargers and SoFi Stadium, as well as Hollywood Park, a broader, 298-acre sports and entertainment district surrounding the US$5 billion, 70,000-seater NFL venue.

According to a joint statement, Google and SoFi Stadium intend to ‘explore media streaming and high-speed wireless solutions’ for event attendees in future, enabling them to access replays, unique camera angles, and exclusive 4K coverage via their mobile phones.

More details regarding the partnership, which was brokered by Legends Global Partnerships, are set to be revealed later this year.

“Google is a world-class company, leading the way in technology,” said Jason Gannon, managing director of SoFi Stadium and Hollywood Park. “Their innovation and services are a critical component to deliver Stan Kroenke’s vision to create the ultimate sports and entertainment destination, SoFi Stadium and Hollywood Park.”

The new deal was announced as the 2020 NFL season got underway this week, with the Kansas City Chiefs starting their Super Bowl defence with a 34-20 win over the Houston Texans on Thursday.
