FC Barcelona forward Ferran Torres is seeing a psychologist to help him get over his poor form with the club, according to a report.

The Spain international arrived at Barca in the winter transfer market of 2022 in a deal that cost a reported €55mn ($59.5mn) to acquire his services from Manchester City.

He scored his first goal for his new club almost exactly a year ago to the day when Barca lost to Athletic Club 3-2 in extra time in the Copa del Rey last 16 on January 20, 2022.

With Barca set to play AD Cueta on Thursday at the same point of the cup competition, SPORT and Barca expert Alfredo Martinez claim that the 22-year-old has enlisted the help of a psychologist as his rut "also seems to be a mental issue".

The Catalan daily newspaper writes that Torres is "blocked, self-conscious, and in recent times nothing has gone well for him". "He lacks confidence", it is added, and "makes mistakes" that don't line up with somebody of his quality.

Staff at the club are also supporting Torres and hope that he will get out of his slump soon. Though Torres effortlessly became a part of head coach Xavi Hernandez's first XI upon arrival last season, he has found himself surplus to requirements due to a return to fitness for Ansu Fati and the arrival of Raphinha which sometimes pushes Ousmane Dembele on to his left wing.

In recent weeks, midfielder Pedri has also been deployed as a false left winger to great effect. On Sunday, in the 3-1 drubbing of Real Madrid in a Clasico edition of the Spanis Super Cup final in Riyadh, Gavi put in a Man of the Match display with two assists and the opening goal in that area of the pitch.

Torres can also operate as a striker. But with Robert Lewandowski around and Fati a worthy target man too, the Valencia academy product is on the outside looking in.

This evening, though, he could get the nod in the Copa del Rey from Xavi who is likely to rest many key players ahead of Sunday's La Liga meeting with Getafe at Camp Nou.
